As a component of one of Dr. Bergstrom’s research projects, he and colleagues estimated the economic value of protecting agricultural land in the State of Georgia using conservation easements. The research results show that the value of farmland protection across the state is determined by factors such as location and type of farmland protected. This information can help decision-makers, such as administrators of conservation programs, to more efficiently target conservation funds. For information on these estimates of farmland protection programs, please see the publication below:

Dr. Bergstrom has also written a short article describing policy tools state and local communities can use to protect farmland. This article is targeted towards individuals and decision makers concerned about farmland protection and what to do about it.
